SUMMARY:Back-chat: Generative AI and the Chatbot Revolution
DESCRIPTION:\nProf Nigel Crook\, Associate Dean: Research and Knowledge Exc
hange\, Oxford Brookes University\nOver the last few months\, Artificial I
ntelligence has once again taken the world by storm. In the latest of thes
e advances\, so called 'generative AI' technologies have enabled the creat
ion of software applications such as DALL.E that can take natural language
descriptions of scenes and generate realistic images of them\, and ChatGP
T\, which is able to hold meaningful conversations with the user about alm
ost any topic. In this talk I will give some insight into the AI technolog
ies that underpin these applications. I will also speak from my own experi
ence in building chatbots about the dangers that these generative approach
es pose to the 'uneducated' user.\nA festive buffet will be served from 6.
