SUMMARY:Robotics in Challenging Environments
DESCRIPTION:\nRobert Skilton\, Robotics Fellow and Head of Robotics Resear
 ch &amp\; Technology (UKAEA)\nThis talk will focus on the use of robotics 
 in challenging environments\, based on work at the UK Atomic Energy Author
 ity centre for Remote Applications in Challenging Environments (RACE). A c
 hallenging environment is one in which people cannot work because conditio
 ns make it impossible or unacceptable. These conditions are found in nucle
 ar\, and petrochemical facilities\, space exploration\, construction and m
 ining\, to name a few. The technical challenges to overcome include high r
 adiation\, extreme temperatures\, limited access\, operation in vacuum and
  magnetic fields. This talk will focus on developing robotic hardware\, so
 ftware and training\, to deliver safer and faster maintenance and operatio
 nal activities in hazardous environments.  It will also touch on the digi
 tal tools developed to visualise complex robotics.\nAbout Robert\nRobert i
 s a Robotics and AI research leader working on clean energy and environmen
 tal remediation through delivering fusion energy and nuclear decommissioni
 ng capabilities.\n\nHybrid Meeting\n\nThis event will be held both “in
  person” and “via Zoom”.\n\n“In Person” Logistics\n\nThe “in p
 erson” meeting will be held at our new meeting place: Rewley House\, 1 W
 ellington Square\, Oxford OX1 2JA. The meeting will commence at 7:30pm\, a
 nd an assortment of light refreshments will be available beforehand. Once
