Tim Lambertstock, Senior Payments Consultant, CGI
Thursday 19th September 2013 – 7:30pm
Oxford e-Research Centre, 6 Keble Road, Oxford, OX1 3QG

As you may have seen from the TV advertising and press coverage, the new Current Account Switch Service went live on the 16th of September, with 33 brands offering this service to customers from launch with more to follow in 2014. Our talk this Thursday will explore what was involved in managing this massive cross-industry programme, outline the underlying technical solution and describe some of the challenges that had to be overcome.

Designed for consumers, small charities and small businesses, the new service is free to use and will deliver a world-leading offering to the UK; making switching current account from one provider to another simple, reliable and hassle-free.

The new, standardised Current Account Switch Service will reduce switching times to just seven working days. Customers will now have control over the date when their current account will switch from their old provider to a new provider and they will be protected by the new Current Account Switch Guarantee and supporting Trustmark.

The new service will also remove the need for customers to liaise with their old bank or building society when they have made the decision to switch. The new provider will take full responsibility for delivering the switch and the customer’s old current account will close once the switch is complete. For 13 months from the switch date a new centralised redirection service will also capture any payments made to the old account by accident and redirect them to the customer’s new account.

Our speaker, Tim Lambertstock, is working with two of the participating banks and the Payments Council to develop and launch the service. Tim is a Senior Payments Consultant with CGI and chairs the Oxfordshire Branch of the BCS.
