Mark Durkee, Centre for Data Ethics & Innovation

Innovation with data-driven technology is changing the way that organisations make decisions. This offers some real opportunities, but also creates challenges. In this talk we’ll explore some of the ways that organisations, regulators and others can work together to make sure that this technology is used fairly and safely.

About the Speaker

Mark works for the Centre for Data Ethics & Innovation, a UK government body responsible for helping policy-makers and delivery teams address the risks and enable the opportunities from data-driven technology. He leads a portfolio of work including CDEI’s Review into Bias in Algorithmic Decision-Making published last year. Prior to joining CDEI in 2019, he worked in a variety of technology strategy, architecture and cyber security roles in the UK government, as a software engineer, and completed a PhD in theoretical physics.
