Dr Mark Bashham, Rosalind Franklin Institute
Technology can be used to create some amazing demonstrations, and these can often be used to describe complex scientific processes. Using commodity technologies such as Lego and Raspberry Pis to conduct such demonstrations can help to demystify these complex processes. In this talk, Mark will show some examples of systems that he has used at both the Diamond Light Source and the Rosalind Franklin Institute.
Bio:
Mark is Head of Artificial Intelligence and Informatics at the Rosalind Franklin Institute, and a Research Fellow at the Diamond Light Source, both located on the Harwell campus in South Oxfordshire. Mark has a real passion for scientific communication; he is the creator of the Lego Beamline (#legobeamline) and co-creator of Diamond the Game and the Raspberry Pi Beamline, all of which are tools primarily to enable engagement with students and the public.
